The Hop Pole Hotel was built circa 1740 by the Savile family, owners of nearby Rufford Abbey since the mid 1600s. It is a handsome early Georgian coaching inn situated on Main Street in Ollertonvillage, opposite the River Maun and watermill. For many years, one of the principal occupations in Ollerton was hop growing - hop vines were grown in fields along the River Maun from the late 1600s and a weekly hop market was held in the village.
